Travis Roadcap, the longtime head baseball coach at Rockbridge County High School, died unexpectedly, leaving the school community stunned.
Roadcap, who took the helm in 2019 after five years as an assistant, also taught physical education, health and strength training, shaping students both on the field and in the classroom.
Beyond the diamond, he was a familiar face at the Freedom Food Festival, where his Pure Eats booth earned the judges' choice award for the second consecutive year.
A Community in Mourning
Friends, former players and colleagues gathered at the school’s baseball field on Saturday evening for a vigil that began at 6 p.m., sharing memories of his mentorship and energy.
Kasey Potts, owner of Pure Eats, paid tribute on Facebook, recalling Roadcap’s passion and the impact he made on the local food scene.
Counselors will be available at the high school on Monday for students and staff coping with the loss.
The cause of death has not been released by officials, and the school asks for privacy as they grieve.
