Ben Coryea, a 6‑foot‑1, 215‑pound running back from Saratoga Springs, is set to join the University at Albany’s football program as a preferred walk‑on this summer.
A Record‑Breaking High School Career
During his senior season at Saratoga Springs High School, Coryea rushed for a school‑record 2,553 yards and scored 31 touchdowns, numbers that placed him among the most prolific rushers in Section II history.
A Scholarship Twist
Originally committed to Stonehill College, where he had earned a scholarship, Coryea’s path shifted when UAlbany replaced its offensive coordinator. The change led the university to withdraw the scholarship, leaving the prospect of a walk‑on spot as his only route to the Division I FCS roster.
Camp Begins July 30
UAlbany’s preseason camp opens on July 30, marking the first step toward the Great Danes’ season opener against New Hampshire on August 28 at Casey Stadium. The timing gives Coryea a chance to make an impression on the new coaching staff.
