Southside Christian School announced the appointment of Ben Johnson as its new boys basketball coach, a move that signals the program’s intent to rebuild after years of early playoff exits.
Johnson arrives after three seasons at Spartanburg Christian Academy, where he guided the team to a 2026 SCISA Class 3A state championship appearance and helped shape a competitive roster.
A Coach With Deep Upstate Roots
A native of the Upstate, Johnson attended Boiling Springs before playing college basketball at Spartanburg Methodist College, giving him a personal connection to the region he now hopes to impact.
Prior to his head coaching stint, he served as associate head coach at Anderson University for seven years, accumulating extensive experience in player development and program leadership.
Building a Winning Culture
Johnson expressed excitement about investing in players both on and off the court, emphasizing relationship building, accountability, and consistency as cornerstones of his approach.
His goals include establishing a strong foundation for the program, fostering player growth, and implementing a winning culture that reflects the school’s broader mission.
The hiring comes at a time when Southside Christian has faced repeated first‑round playoff exits, a pattern the coach hopes to break through strategic recruitment and sustained development.
