Bend’s Pine Nursery Park Finishes $8 Million Renovation

New basketball court, eight pickleball courts, and upgraded fields set to open this fall

A Community‑Driven Revamp

The Bend Park and Recreation District announced this week that the $8 million renovation of Pine Nursery Park is now complete, delivering a full‑court basketball court, eight brand‑new pickleball courts and upgraded sports fields that meet modern play standards.

Funding for the project came from a mix of public dollars and private contributions, including a half‑million‑dollar pledge from the Bend Pickleball Club that helped double the park’s pickleball capacity to 24 courts.

The upgrades also introduced dark‑sky compliant lighting, allowing games to continue into the evening during the fall and spring months, while artificial‑turf infields and new fencing improve durability and safety.

Pedestrian pathways now link the park to Deschutes Market Road, and off‑leash dog zones have been expanded, creating a more welcoming environment for families and pet owners alike.

Jase Newton, the district’s recreation services director, emphasized that the improvements were driven by community partnerships, noting that collaborations with Oregon Adaptive Sports and local volunteers made the vision possible.

The final touches, including paving repairs along the perimeter loop trail and a new storage shed for maintenance staff, are slated for completion by early fall, after which the park will be ready to host its one‑million‑visitor annual schedule.
