The Benedictine baseball team saw its historic campaign draw to a close on Thursday, as the Cadets fell to North Oconee in the state semifinals. The loss capped a 31‑8 season that marked the program’s first semifinal appearance since 2002.
North Oconee entered the series as the top‑seeded Class 4A program and lived up to that billing, taking a 6‑2 victory in the opener before sealing the series with a 2‑1 win in the second game.
The Cadets showed resilience throughout, with senior Mason O'Neil delivering a complete‑game effort on the mound in the second contest and sophomore Omari Burse sparking hope with an infield single in the seventh inning that kept the rally alive.
Offensive highlights included Jadon Muller’s solo home run in the bottom of the fourth of the first game and a two‑run blast from North Oconee’s Landyn Dykes that offed BC starter Colvin Proto.
The series also underscored the end of an era, as the Cadets will graduate several seniors, including O'Neil, Proto and catcher Mason Diamond, but the roster will retain promising talent such as sophomores Elliott Zeigler and Noah Harris and juniors Kai Hernandez‑Gambill and Omari Burse.
Looking Ahead
Coach Jason Pascual reflected on the team's hard work and resilience, noting that the returning core provides a strong foundation for next season. With a blend of seasoned juniors and emerging sophomores, the Cadets aim to build on this experience and push for another deep run in the coming year.
