A community celebration on the field
The Bennington Soccer Charity Cup is set to host its fifth annual soccer tournament this June, bringing together co‑ed teams of seven players each who are over 16 years old. The event aims to create a positive experience for local participants and the broader community.
Games will kick off on June 1 and continue on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with each team guaranteed a minimum of four matches. Organizers have structured the schedule to balance competition with community engagement.
All money collected through sponsorships, entry fees, snack sales and other donations is funneled to the charity selected by the winning team. In 2024, the tournament contributed $4,500 to the Vermont Flood Response and Recovery Fund, illustrating the direct impact of the event on regional relief efforts.
Players are required to pay a $30 entry fee before the first game, and additional contributions can be made through a GoFundMe page promoted on Instagram. Prospective participants can reach out to organizer Ryan Rogge at 802‑379‑7942 or via email at ryan.rogge11@gmail.com to join a team or learn more about the schedule.
Although the tournament began as a local initiative, it has already expanded beyond Bennington’s immediate circles. Multiple teams are still seeking players, and the organizers encourage anyone interested to get involved before the registration deadline.
Looking ahead
With plans to broaden outreach and attract new talent, the Bennington Soccer Charity Cup hopes to continue its tradition of blending sport with philanthropy. Updates and registration details are available on the tournament’s Instagram and Facebook pages, where followers can stay informed about upcoming matches and donation opportunities.
