Berkshire Reign Launches Inaugural 1791 Classic Youth Baseball Tournament

Eight teams compete in 14U and 17U divisions across Berkshire County, highlighting skill development and community support

The 1791 Classic Takes Shape

The inaugural 1791 Classic youth baseball tournament, organized by the Berkshire Reign program, will run from Friday through Sunday, August 14‑16, 2026, across several venues in the Berkshire region, including Joe Wolfe Field in North Adams and fields in Dalton.

Eight teams are split into 14‑under and 17‑under divisions, competing in round‑robin matches before the semifinals and championships conclude on Sunday.

Coach Kristopher Ireland, who launched the non‑profit Berkshire Reign in 2022, says the event is designed to give young players in Berkshire County and beyond a chance to develop their skills while keeping the focus on fun.

Development Over Competition

The tournament emphasizes skill building and a positive experience, offering low registration fees and encouraging families to host visiting players to reduce travel expenses.

By leveraging community support, the organizers aim to make high‑quality baseball accessible to families who might otherwise face financial barriers.

Ireland notes that the program also helps athletes transition into fall sports, ensuring continued participation in baseball and other activities throughout the year.

Looking forward, he hopes to expand the Classic into multiple regional divisions and eventually host a championship at Wahconah Park, following successful models in Upstate New York, Maine and Boston.
