A Young Squad with Big Ambitions
The Berry Wildcats are set to begin the 2026 campaign with a mix of optimism and uncertainty. A 9‑3 record in 2025 earned them second place in AHSAA Class 1A, Region 5, but the team will have to replace eleven seniors.
Only four starters return on each side of the ball, leaving a young core that includes four sophomores and a freshman. The offense will feature two returning linemen, a tight end and a single receiver, while the defense brings back a Will linebacker, two secondary players and a defensive end.
Among the key returnees are seniors Ashton Waltrip, Dustin Cook and Dalton Greene, who will anchor the lineup. Sophomore quarterback Zack Hollingsworth is expected to take on a larger role, a development that junior wide receiver Drayke Par says will showcase Hollingsworth’s leadership and accuracy.
Coach Danny Raines has repeatedly praised the squad’s work ethic, noting that the players have embraced the challenge despite their inexperience. “Their preparation has been relentless,” he said, expressing confidence that the team can contend for a championship.
The schedule presents tough tests, highlighted by a marquee matchup against Hubbertville. Nevertheless, the Wildcats enter each game with a belief that their collective effort can overcome any obstacle.
Fans and community members are eager to see how the young roster will gel, and the excitement surrounding the season reflects a broader hope that Berry can translate its potential into tangible success on the field.
