Bethune‑Cookman University’s football program is buzzing with anticipation as the 2026 season approaches, highlighted by the recent announcement that six of its student‑athletes have been selected for the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s Preseason All‑Conference Teams.
First‑Team Standouts
Offensive lineman Christian Loving, linebacker Stephen Sparrow and longsnapper Cole Hash earned the distinction of First‑Team honors. Loving played a pivotal role in anchoring the line that helped the Wildcats produce one of their most productive offenses since joining the SWAC, while Sparrow’s 62 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, two sacks and two pass breakups from the previous season underscored his defensive impact. Hash, the team’s longsnapper, contributed to a top‑ranked punting unit that excelled on both punts and field goals.
Second‑Team Contributors
Defensive backs Naim Lassiter, defensive lineman Isaiah Washburn and defensive lineman Malik Stinnett were recognized on the Second Team. Lassiter compiled 56 tackles, an interception, three pass breakups, a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries, while Washburn ranked sixth in the conference with 4.5 sacks and added 17 tackles, two quarterback hurries and a pass breakup. Stinnett finished with 38 tackles, including 23 solo stops, and posted three tackles for loss, 0.5 sacks, two quarterback hurries and five pass breakups.
The Wildcats’ offensive identity was on full display last season, ranking fourth in the conference in total offense and leading the league in passing with nearly 240 yards per game. The team also averaged more than 170 rushing yards per contest, nearly five yards per carry, reflecting a balanced attack that should keep opponents guessing.
The Wildcats will open the 2026 campaign on Saturday, September 3, when they travel to face UCF in Orlando, a matchup that will serve as an early test of the talent and depth highlighted by the preseason accolades.
