Rising Stars Set for Big 12 Honors
The Big 12 will reveal its 2025‑26 Athlete of the Year nominees from July 13 through July 22, with the winners to be announced on July 23. Each of the conference’s 16 member schools submitted one male and one female candidate who meet the dual criteria of athletic competition and academic standing.
Among the nominees, TCU’s Olivia Miles stands out as a leading contender for the Female Athlete of the Year award. A graduate of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Miles has amassed a suite of accolades that include Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Year, unanimous first‑team All‑Big 12 honors, and a 3.75 GPA that earned her Academic All‑America First Team recognition.
Miles’ statistical footprint is equally striking: she recorded six triple‑doubles — the most in a single season and career in Big 12 history — and became one of only four players in NCAA history to reach 2,000 points, 800 rebounds and 800 assists. She averaged 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists per game and led the nation with 26 games of at least 15 points and five assists. Her draft stock rose to a No. 2 overall pick in the recent WNBA Draft.
A Dual Threat on Court and in the Classroom
Also nominated from TCU is Duncan Chan, a junior from Markham, Ontario, who is in the running for Male Athlete of the Year. Chan captured Big 12 Co‑Player of the Year and earned first‑team All‑Big 12 honors in both singles and doubles, reached the ITA No. 1 doubles ranking, and finished the season ranked No. 3 nationally in doubles and No. 7 in singles.
Chan compiled a 50‑13 record, leading TCU in total, singles and doubles victories, and posted a 17‑7 mark against ranked opponents, including an unbeaten conference slate in singles. His performances helped the Horned Frogs capture the Big 12 Tournament title and advance to the NCAA semifinals. Off the court, he maintained a 3.54 GPA and received Academic All‑America First Team honors.
The upcoming announcements highlight the conference’s commitment to celebrating athletes who excel both in competition and scholarship. As the Big 12 prepares to crown its 2025‑26 honorees, the spotlight will fall on these remarkable students who represent the next generation of leaders in college sports.
