Coaches Shape Big 12 Future at Spring Meetings
The Big 12 convened its coaches in Frisco, Texas, for the league’s annual spring meetings, where Arizona’s head coach Tommy Lloyd and West Virginia’s coach Ross Hodge took the podium to outline their priorities for the upcoming season.
Lloyd stressed the importance of rule certainty and highlighted the advantages of the current 18‑game schedule, noting that it provides a stable framework for teams while still leaving room for growth.
Hodge, meanwhile, argued that expanding the NCAA Tournament would enhance scheduling flexibility and bolster the conference’s brand, allowing teams to pursue more aggressive matchups without penalty.
Both coaches acknowledged the transformative effect of name, image and likeness deals and revenue‑sharing models, pointing to a deeper talent pool and heightened fan engagement that have reshaped the sport’s landscape.
Lloyd also remarked that support for the game has never been stronger, with more players opting to remain in college longer, which he believes benefits the overall quality and continuity of basketball.
Hodge added that the increased depth of talent across the league is reflected in rising viewership numbers, underscoring the conference’s growing appeal to a national audience.
