A packed schedule ahead
The Big 12 Conference announced its 2027 baseball schedule this week, laying out a 30‑game conference slate for each member school. For BYU, the plan calls for exactly half of those games — 15 — to be played at home in Miller Park, with the remaining 15 spread across the road.
Conference play is slated to open on March 18 and will wrap up on May 21, with most series compressed into a Friday‑Sunday format. The Cougars will host Arizona, Baylor, Houston, Texas Tech and West Virginia at home, while traveling to face Arizona State, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, TCU and Utah.
The schedule also highlights a few notable exclusions. Cincinnati, Kansas and Iowa State will not appear on BYU’s regular‑season slate, a detail that shapes the team’s competitive outlook for the year.
Tournament returns to Surprise Stadium
The Big 12 Baseball Tournament will make its comeback at Surprise Stadium from May 25 through May 29, featuring the top 12 teams in the league. The event provides a final showcase before the NCAA postseason, adding a layer of excitement for programs eyeing automatic bids.
BYU’s recent form adds context to the upcoming season. In 2026 the Cougars finished 28‑28 overall and 14‑16 in conference play, slipping to eighth place. Despite the middling record, they secured a spot in the Big 12 Championship Tournament for the second straight year, winning their opening game over Texas Tech 18‑8.
The Cougars also demonstrated they can compete with elite opposition, sweeping four conference series and picking up victories against Oklahoma State and Cincinnati — both of which earned NCAA Tournament berths last season. Three of BYU’s 2027 opponents — Arizona State, Oklahoma State and West Virginia — also made the 2026 NCAA field, underscoring the strength of the schedule.
