The Big Sky Conference unveiled its 2026 preseason all‑conference squad this week, highlighting a blend of emerging talent and proven leaders as the league gears up for another competitive season.
Jeter Purdy, a tight end who burst onto the scene as a freshman in 2025, earned his first preseason accolade. He posted 29 receptions for 415 yards, averaged 14.3 yards per catch and scored two touchdowns in back‑to‑back games, helping his team climb into contention.
Shoes Brinkley, a safety entering his inaugural year in Flagstaff, was similarly recognized after leading the Cowboys with 81 tackles. His three double‑digit tackle performances underscored a defensive presence that coaches say will anchor the unit.
Preseason MVP Honors
Montana’s running back Eli Gillman and Montana State’s defensive back Caden Dowler were voted the conference’s offensive and defensive most valuable players respectively, capping a preseason awards ceremony that also featured media day appearances.
Both Purdy and Brinkley will join their teammates in Spokane for the Big Sky Football Media Day, where they are expected to field questions about their expectations and the upcoming schedule.
