A Legacy That Inspires
Bill Ferrara began his coaching journey as a graduate assistant at the University of Florida in 2006, where he was assigned to scout the Tennessee Lady Vols for an upcoming matchup.
During that preparation he encountered a team led by redshirt freshman phenom Candace Parker, and the experience left a lasting impression of the program’s tradition and its passionate culture.
Ferrara was struck by the intensity and passion displayed by Pat Summitt’s squads, a quality that has remained a cornerstone of Tennessee basketball and shaped his own approach to the game.
Years later, after observing Kim Caldwell’s rise and her laser‑focused leadership, Ferrara decided to join her staff, citing Caldwell’s clear vision and the program’s upward trajectory.
Having worked closely with Caldwell for the past six weeks, Ferrara describes her as a meticulous strategist who makes tough decisions to build the team the way she envisions.
The Lady Vols have not returned to the Final Four since 2008, but Ferrara sees the current roster as a realistic chance to chase that elusive berth, calling it a “pretty cool thing to chase.”
