Bill Snyder, a former Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball pitcher, has been selected for the D3baseball.com 50th Anniversary Golden Team, a honor that places him among the most celebrated student‑athletes in Division III baseball history.
A Star is Born at RPI
Snyder arrived in Troy, New York, in the mid‑1990s and quickly became a cornerstone of the Engineers’ program, compiling a career that spanned 1994 through 1997.
The 1996 Breakthrough
During the 1996 season Snyder posted a 1.03 earned run average, the lowest in the nation, while the RPI pitching staff posted a 2.04 team ERA. His dominance earned him unanimous UCAA Pitcher of the Year honors and the ECAC Player of the Year award, cementing his status as a national standout.

In 1997 Snyder set single‑season school records with 126 strikeouts and nine complete games. He finished the year ranked second in Division III for strikeouts per game (13.2) and seventh for earned run average (1.67).
