A Community-First Approach
The Billings Cattle Punchers, a Tier II junior hockey franchise competing in the North American Hockey League, are set to open their inaugural tryout camp to the public this August.
From August 6 through 8, the camp will take place at Signal Peak Energy Arena, offering prospects between 17 and 20 a chance to display their abilities before coaches and scouts.
Head coach Steve Haddon, who has led the team since its founding, notes that the evaluation process weighs character and community involvement as heavily as hockey skill.
The camp’s finale arrives on August 8 with an all-star game scheduled to start at 5 p.m., preceded by gate openings at 4 p.m. Tickets are available at the arena box office or through the team’s website, and season seat holders may attend the game free of charge.
Beyond the on-ice showcase, the organization stresses building lasting connections with the Billings community, hoping the tryout will nurture not only talent but also a new generation of local supporters.
