A Freshman's Breakout
North Dakota State’s baseball program celebrated a milestone as seven of its players were recognized on the Summit League’s all‑conference teams, a testament to a season that blended youthful talent with seasoned effort.
At the center of the celebration is freshman pitcher Sheamus Ryan, who was crowned the league’s Newcomer of the Year after posting a 2.02 earned‑run average and three saves in league play, while striking out 19 batters over 35.2 innings.
Ryan’s impact extended beyond numbers; his two starts in Summit League competition included a complete‑game effort against St. Thomas on March 15, where he delivered six strikeouts and showcased poise on the mound.
Veteran presence was also acknowledged, with Parker Puetz earning a spot on the All‑League First Team for the first time in his career; the right‑hander had compiled 25 strikeouts in 30.1 innings before a injury curtailed his campaign, maintaining a 4.15 ERA and limiting opponents to a .274 average.
Joining Ryan on the Second Team, Kyle Law proved to be an offensive catalyst, batting .314 across 20 games, launching six home runs, scoring 18 runs, and leading the league with a .671 slugging percentage.
The honor roll also featured Bennett Freiter, Chase Womack, Diego Trujillo and Dante Smith on the All‑League Honorable Mention list; each contributed key hits, solid defense and reliable production that helped shape the Bison’s competitive edge.
Looking Ahead
As the team prepares for the next slate of games, the early accolades serve as both recognition and motivation, promising that the Bison will remain a formidable force in the Summit League.
