BJ Edwards, the former Knoxville Catholic point guard who earned TSSAA Mr. Basketball honors in 2021, has officially signed a contract with the Sacramento Kings.
The guard entered the 2026 NBA Draft without being selected, but the Kings have taken a chance on him, inviting him to compete in the NBA Summer League as they evaluate his fit for the roster.
A Brief College Journey
Edwards concluded his college career at SMU, where he posted career‑high numbers of 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2.3 steals per game, shooting 47.4% from the field and 37.2% from three‑point range.
He appeared in all 35 games during the 2024‑25 season, helping the Mustangs finish strong before missing the final stretch due to an ankle injury.
Before SMU, Edwards played 14 games for the Tennessee Volunteers, a stint that followed his high school stardom at Knoxville Catholic, where he led the Irish to a state championship appearance in 2022.
The Kings will give him a chance to showcase his abilities on the summer league stage, a platform that has launched the careers of many undrafted players.
