Blair County Launches Unified Youth Football Program

New league expands tackle, cheer and flag football across school districts, adds girls’ flag and kicks off with a countywide weigh‑in and scrimmage.

The Blair County Youth Football League (BCYFL) has officially opened its doors as a countywide organization that unites school districts across the region, replacing a patchwork of separate programs with a single, coordinated competition.

Countywide Competition Takes Shape

The league offers tackle football divisions for students in grades 3‑4 and 5‑6, alongside youth cheerleading and flag football, and it has introduced a girls’ flag football program to broaden participation.

An inaugural Tackle Football Weigh‑In & Scrimmage Day is scheduled for this Saturday, with weigh‑ins for grades 3‑4 beginning at 8 a.m. at the athletic field in Claysburg and grades 5‑6 at 11 a.m. on the Fairview Avenue field in Roaring Spring.

Organizers say the consolidation is intended to strengthen community ties, increase athlete involvement and preserve long‑standing local traditions while providing a more structured pathway for youth sports.

League officials expect the new format to boost engagement and create a more inclusive environment for families throughout Blair County.
