From Abilene to the Canadian Gridiron
Blayne Taylor, who dominated the Abilene Christian University offense from 2022 through 2024, has officially signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League. The move caps a college career that saw him amass 133 receptions for 2,026 yards and 17 touchdowns, numbers that placed him among the most prolific receivers in ACU history.
Taylor’s senior season was marked by a string of record‑breaking performances, including 73 catches for 1,117 yards, earning him a spot on the All‑United Athletic Conference second team. He had previously caught the eye of CFL scouts during a rookie minicamp with the Indianapolis Colts in May 2025, a stint that helped smooth his transition to the professional game.
A Reunion in the CFL
The signing also brings a familiar face to Hamilton’s roster. Taylor will join his former ACU teammate Sam Hicks, now the starting running back for the Toronto Argonauts. The two former teammates are set to meet on the field when the Tiger-Cats host the Argonauts on Saturday, July 18, a matchup that promises to highlight the depth of talent emerging from the Abilene program.
Taylor’s journey from Saginaw, Texas, through the collegiate ranks to the CFL reflects a broader trend of American players seeking opportunities north of the border. His signing underscores the growing interest in the league and the competitive edge that former NCAA standouts can bring.
