The Bethesda Academy Blazers opened their 2026 campaign in spectacular fashion, routing Frederica Academy 55-7 on the road.
Junior quarterback Jordan Turner, now a junior, orchestrated the offense with poise, completing 17 of 22 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns while adding 37 rushing yards and two scores on the ground. The ground attack was further bolstered when Joseph Adkins broke off a 45-yard run that underscored the team’s balanced attack.
A Balanced Assault
The receiving corps proved equally potent, with senior standout MJ Scott hauling in three catches for 86 yards and a touchdown, and Dezrin Davis contributing two grabs for 59 yards and a score. Zhir Witcher and Jeffrey Armstrong also chipped in, each adding over 60 yards and a touchdown.
Lights Out Defense
On the other side of the ball, the Blazers’ defense turned the game into a showcase of relentless pressure, describing their effort as ‘lights out’ and limiting the opposition to just a handful of first‑down opportunities.
Antwain Turner, in his 22nd season, praised the team’s hunger and highlighted the improvements made during the offseason, especially in run and pass protection by the offensive line.
The victory not only marks a strong start but also signals a move up to Class 3A, where the Blazers will face a tougher slate of opponents. The coaching staff is already plotting a challenging schedule to prepare the team for the next level.
Meanwhile, rival Strong Rock Christian endured a shutout loss to Locust Grove, where junior quarterback Devin Trawick ran for 39 yards and threw for 56 yards, highlighting the competitive landscape that awaits the Blazers as they aim to make an impact in their new division.
