A joint effort for safer play
Both school districts have signed off on the co‑op, which will serve students from grades seven through twelve. Superintendents, activities directors and head coaches from each community have voiced their backing, emphasizing that the partnership is designed to protect athletes while maintaining competitive opportunities.
Participation trends in recent years have shown a modest decline, prompting administrators to explore collaborative solutions rather than risk dwindling rosters that could force program cuts. The co‑op is expected to remain in place for a minimum of two years, after which each district will reassess enrollment figures to determine whether separate teams can be reinstated.
The arrangement builds on an existing wrestling co‑op known as the Westfield Razorbacks, which already unites students from both schools on the mat. That precedent gave officials confidence that a football co‑op could be managed smoothly, sharing resources and scheduling while preserving the spirit of each community’s program.
