The Bloomington Bison announced Tuesday that they have secured the services of forward Glebs Prohorenkovs for the upcoming 2026‑27 campaign, a move that bolsters the team’s offensive depth and brings a seasoned international pedigree to the roster.
A Journey From Latvia To Illinois
Prohorenkovs, a native of Riga, has spent the last several years honing his craft in both North America and Europe, compiling 87 points over 147 games at Niagara University where he contributed 31 goals and 56 assists.
His collegiate performance earned him recognition on the world stage, leading Latvia’s junior national team to medal finishes at the IIHF World Championship tournaments, including a D1A Gold Medal at the 2017‑18 U18 level and a Silver Medal the following year.
After his college stint, the forward spent a season with the Amarillo Wranglers of the North American Hockey League, posting 53 points in 60 games, before earning a brief stint in the KHL where he recorded a goal for Dinamo Riga and added eight points for HK Riga in the 2020‑21 campaign.
More recently, Prohorenkovs returned to his homeland’s top league, tallying 25 points in 61 appearances from 2018 to 2020, a testament to his adaptability and sustained offensive output.
The Bison’s management expressed confidence that his blend of size, skill, and international experience will translate well to the competitive environment of the United States Hockey League, positioning the club for a stronger season ahead.
