The Columbus Blue Jackets announced the signing of forward Danton Heinen to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2026-27 season, a move aimed at bolstering depth and flexibility within the lineup.
A versatile addition
General manager Don Waddell praised the veteran’s two-way capabilities, noting that Heinen brings a competitive edge and a wealth of NHL experience that can benefit both the parent club and its affiliates.
Heinen, who has suited up for the Blue Jackets, Penguins, Canucks, Bruins and Ducks, has compiled 102 goals and 151 assists for 253 points across 612 NHL games, while also contributing 6 goals and 7 assists in 48 playoff appearances.
His AHL stint with the Cleveland Monsters yielded 21 goals and 51 assists in 83 games, and his collegiate career at the University of Denver produced 36 goals and 57 assists in 81 contests, earning him NCHC Rookie of the Year in 2014-15 and Forward of the Year in 2015-16.
The 2025-26 season saw Heinen split time between Columbus and Pittsburgh, where he posted 6 goals, 6 assists and 12 points in 46 games, and he previously set single-season career highs in assists and points with Boston during 2017-18, while his most prolific goal output came with Pittsburgh in 2021-22.
Drafted in the fourth round by Boston in 2014, Heinen’s journey reflects a steady progression from college stardom to a reliable NHL contributor, now returning to Columbus with a fresh contract and a clear role in the team’s plans.
