Blue Water Area Celebrates Dual State Champions

The Blue Water Area Conference (BWAC) delivered a historic double‑title weekend, with Armada’s softball squad and Richmond’s baseball team each hoisting state trophies. The achievements underscore the region’s growing prominence in high school athletics.

Armada’s softball team completed an immaculate 8‑0 postseason run to capture the Division 2 championship. Sophomore outfielder Lily Piconke, who batted .447 and drove in 56 runs, earned MVP honors, while Coach Rob Girvin’s leadership was recognized as BWAC Coach of the Year.

On the diamond, Richmond dominated the BWAC with a flawless 14‑0 conference schedule and finished the season 32‑3 overall. Senior Logan Evans, son of coach Scott Evans, was named BWAC MVP after delivering clutch performances in the playoffs.

All‑BWAC First Team selections spanned both sports, featuring standouts such as Helena Fettue, Taylor Capozzo and Megan Cox from Armada’s softball roster, and Dominic Bonnetti, Cameron Murray and Gaige Towner from Richmond’s baseball squad. Additional honorees from schools including Algonac, North Branch and Almont rounded out the conference’s depth.

The ripple effect extended beyond the championship games, as Yale, Croswell‑Lexington and Imlay City also saw players earn First Team accolades. The collective recognition highlighted the conference’s competitive balance across the season.

Beyond the field, the victories have spurred community excitement and academic interest, with local schools citing the successes as inspiration for both athletic and scholarly programs. The upcoming season promises to build on this momentum as teams aim for repeat excellence.
