Blue Water Soccer Inaugural Senior All-Star Game Showcases Local Talent

A two-division showcase held at Walt Braun Viking Stadium under summer heat and rain

The first ever Blue Water Soccer Senior All-Star Game unfolded on July 9 at Walt Braun Viking Stadium, drawing a crowd eager to see the region’s top high school seniors compete.

The event was split into two exhibitions, one for girls and one for boys, each featuring standout athletes from schools across the Blue Water Area, including Yale High School, Marysville High School and St. Clair High School.

Challenges on the Field

While the girls' match was played under sweltering heat, the Blue Team edged a 1-0 victory, with Katelyn Kaminski of St. Clair netting the decisive goal. In contrast, the boys' game faced heavy rain, yet the Blue side rallied to a 3-2 win, capped by a winning strike from Chase Jones of St. Clair.

Coaches praised the high level of play and the camaraderie that blossomed among the participants, noting that the experience offered a rare chance to mentor talent from rival schools and to say a final goodbye to their own seniors.

Organizers, including coaches Pat Egan, Scott Parker, Cliff Freeland and Jonny Torres, credited Kevin Knuth and Ryan Biewer for their behind-the-scenes contributions, and they announced plans to turn the showcase into an annual tradition.

The successful debut highlighted the growing soccer culture in the region and set a promising foundation for future editions.
