The City of Bluefield Parks and Recreation has issued a notice that several of its public basketball courts will be closed for a limited period to allow for surface upgrades.
What’s Changing on the Courts
The affected facilities, located within the City Park complex, will be inaccessible to the public beginning today. Work crews will be on site to apply a fresh coat of paint and re‑stripe the playing lines, a routine maintenance effort that also incorporates minor surface repairs.
The closure is scheduled to remain in effect until June 3, 2026, after which the courts are expected to reopen with the newly finished surface. The city has indicated that the timing is intended to minimize disruption while ensuring that the work is completed to a high standard.
Community Response
City officials took the opportunity to thank residents for their patience and understanding during the temporary shutdown. They emphasized that the improvements are aimed at enhancing playability and safety for all users, from youth leagues to casual pick‑up games.
Residents are encouraged to use alternative facilities while the work is underway, and the parks department will provide updates on the progress of the renovation as the project advances.
