Bluffton Pirates suffer 7‑0 defeat to Sylvania Northview

A non‑league matchup reveals early‑season challenges for the high school squad

A tough night for the Pirates

On August 29, the Bluffton High School girls soccer team traveled to face Sylvania Northview in a non‑league contest, falling 7‑0. The loss drops the Pirates to 1‑2 on the season, while the visitors improve to 4‑0.

Sylvania Northview struck early, with Mira Ziemke opening the scoring in the fifth minute. The offense continued to build momentum, as Sophia Schwind added a goal in the 21st minute before Ziemke struck twice in quick succession in the 33rd and 35th minutes, extending the lead to 5‑0. Kealie Kalita and Reece Barnaby capped the scoring with goals in the 50th and 61st minutes respectively.

Goalkeeper’s effort amid the barrage

Despite the onslaught, Bluffton goalkeeper Maelee Miller kept the team in the game, making 14 saves and limiting the damage. Northview outshot the Pirates 21 of 26 attempts on target, underscoring the defensive pressure faced by the home side.

Looking ahead, the Pirates are scheduled to open Northwest Conference play against Spencerville on September 1, a match that could provide a chance to rebound from the early‑season setback.
