Bo Gerbracht, a junior at Central College, has been named to the United States Deaf Baseball Team that will compete at the World Deaf Baseball Championships in Kanagawa, Japan, this November.
From Iowa to International Play
Gerbracht’s baseball journey began at the Iowa Baseball Camp for the Deaf, a program he attended from 2015 through 2018 after a recommendation from an audiologist at the University of Iowa Hospital. The camp, which serves deaf and hard‑of‑hearing youth, provided his first structured exposure to competitive baseball.
During his time at the camp he was frequently invited back by director Dylan Heuer, eventually taking on a volunteer role that allowed him to assist younger players and gain experience beyond the field.
This summer, exhibition games were held at the same camp, and although Gerbracht did not initially plan to attend, his involvement deepened his connection to the program and highlighted his commitment to the sport.
A Silver Medalist Returns
The 2024 World Deaf Baseball Championships in Taiwan ended with the U.S. team securing a silver medal, a result that added momentum to the upcoming tournament in Japan. Gerbracht’s prior experience on that podium provides a valuable reference point as he prepares for the next edition.
On the mound, Gerbracht has logged 13 career pitching appearances, accumulating 14 innings of relief work for the Dutch team. His role as a reliever underscores his versatility and reliability in high‑pressure situations.
The 2025 World Deaf Baseball Championships will take place in Kanagawa from November 1 through November 3. Team USA will face a field of international competitors, and Gerbracht is expected to contribute his experience and skill set to the roster.
