Bob Janeda Retires After Seven Years, Leaving a Legacy of Montour Baseball Success

The veteran coach steps down to focus on family, closing a chapter that saw the Spartans capture a historic PIAA championship.

Bob Janeda, who led the Montour Spartans baseball program for seven seasons, announced his retirement this week, ending a tenure that reshaped the team’s identity and set a new standard for future generations.

Under his guidance the squad captured its first-ever PIAA state championship, added two WPIAL runner‑up finishes and collected four section titles, compiling a 116‑52 overall record that included a 61‑15 mark in section play.

The coach’s departure is tied to personal priorities, as his son Brock is now competing at the collegiate level on a football scholarship at Duquesne University while his daughter Reese prepares to attend the College of Charleston.

A Legacy in Transition

Janeda’s career, which began in 2019 as the varsity head coach, spans 15 years of dedication to the program, during which his teams posted a 13‑7 playoff record and a 7‑4 showing in the PIAA tournament, reaching the round of 16 on two occasions.

In a heartfelt farewell, he thanked his assistant coaches for always putting the players first and admitted he will miss the youthful energy of the locker room, a feeling he described as a defining part of his coaching journey.
