Bob Madison, who had led the Hempfield girls basketball program for three seasons, announced his resignation this week, saying he wants to devote more time to his family.
During his tenure he compiled a 31‑35 record, highlighted by a 13‑10 finish last year and the team's sole appearance in the WPIAL Class 6A playoffs.
Madison will remain with the school in a different capacity, taking on an assistant coaching role for the Hempfield softball team where his wife, Tina Madison, serves as head coach.

The decision comes amid a broader conversation about the demands placed on high school sports programs, with Madison pointing to the year‑round commitment required and the occasional interference from parents as factors that made the basketball job unsustainable.
