Coastal Carolina Baseball announced the appointment of Bobby Austin as its new Director of Player Development, a move designed to deepen the program’s analytical capabilities and elevate player growth across the roster.
Austin’s career spans several high‑profile programs. After six seasons at Mississippi State, where he progressed from graduate assistant to coordinator of player development and helped the Bulldogs capture the 2021 NCAA National Championship, he spent time at East Carolina overseeing internal analytics, coordinating opponent scouting reports, and directing baseball camps. His work with USA Baseball, including a stint as bullpen coach for the Collegiate National Team in 2021 and a task‑force coordinator in 2019, further broadened his national perspective on talent evaluation.
A championship pedigree meets fresh ambition
Chris Lemonis, Coastal Carolina’s head baseball coach, praised Austin’s blend of analytical insight and hands‑on coaching experience, stating that the hire aligns perfectly with the program’s vision of integrating advanced metrics with traditional player development.
In his first public remarks, Austin expressed gratitude for the opportunity, emphasizing his excitement to work closely with the student‑athletes and to help them realize their fullest potential both on the field and in their personal growth.
In his new role, Austin will lead player development and analytics for the Chanticleers, shaping scouting strategies, refining performance metrics, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement that seeks to maximize each athlete’s contribution to the team’s success.
