Boston College's field hockey program is gearing up for the 2026 season, opening its campaign on Friday at 3 p.m. against Providence in Newton, Massachusetts. The matchup marks the 40th meeting between the Eagles and the Friars, a rivalry that has seen Boston College ride a 14‑game winning streak since 2009.
Opening the Season
The Eagles will field a roster that blends experience with fresh talent. Fourteen players return from the previous year, joined by seven newcomers and a graduate transfer, giving the team depth as it looks to improve on a 6‑10 record from 2025.
Leadership and Legacy
Among the returning stalwarts is senior goalkeeper Charlotte Kramer, who enters her final season as the program’s tenth‑most winningest net‑minder with 18 career victories. Kramer will be complemented by captains Madelieve Drion, Maeve Seeger and Laila Rosenquest, who were chosen by teammates to lead the squad. Drion was the offensive engine in 2025, topping the team in points, goals and shots on goal while starting all 16 games. Joining her in the attack is Alex De Cain, who contributed four goals and two assists for a total of ten points last season.
Fresh Faces and International Experience
The incoming class brings international flair, highlighted by Ike Jakobsen, a former captain of the KZ WU18 side and a member of the Dutch WU16 National Team. Freshmen Regan Welsh and Lucy Parker also arrive with high expectations of making an immediate impact, alongside teammates Caroline Chisholm, Sophia Sisco and Milou Klein.
A Schedule of Tests
Boston College will host Maryland, Northwestern and Duke in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge scheduled for September 4‑6, while also traveling to face UAlbany, a program against which the Eagles hold a winning historical record. The team’s next test after Providence will be a trip to upstate New York, where they aim to extend their series advantage.
With a blend of seasoned leaders, a promising freshman contingent and a demanding schedule, the Eagles are poised to turn the page on last year’s results and chase a deeper run in the coming months.
