Boston Fleet Moves Home Games to Agganis Arena

The franchise hopes a larger Boston venue will boost attendance, even as it risks alienating its Lowell core.

The Professional Women’s Hockey League’s Boston Fleet will call Agganis Arena its primary home arena beginning next season, ending a three‑year stint at the Tsongases Center in Lowell.

Agganis, situated near the Green Line, offers a more central location that the league believes will attract casual fans and increase weekday ticket sales.

In its most recent two seasons at the Tsongases Center, the Fleet averaged 4,563 spectators per game, whereas the arena in Boston has already drawn an average of 5,491 fans per game over the past two years, with four of six games sold out.

Why the Change Matters

The shift is not merely geographic; it signals a broader strategy to embed the franchise within a major collegiate market, leveraging the arena’s infrastructure and the city’s transportation network.

Team officials say the move reflects a desire to capitalize on Boston’s growing market, but they acknowledge that some longtime season‑ticket holders in Lowell may be difficult to retain.

Laura Marie Davey, who has been covering the team for the league’s digital platform, noted that the PWHL has harbored ambitions to play in Boston since the league’s inaugural season.
