A Milestone for Girls’ Hockey in Boston
On August 9, 2026, Boston Fleet captain Megan Keller and forward Shay Maloney joined SCORE Boston’s Girls in Sports Community event to launch the organization’s all‑girls hockey program, a initiative made possible by the NHL Foundation’s U.S. Empowerment Grant.
The program, funded through a $100,000 contribution from Keller in March, supports SCORE Boston and the Michigan Suburban Hockey Foundation, aiming to broaden access to hockey for girls in both Massachusetts and Michigan.
The launch featured street‑hockey drills with Keller guarding the net, lacrosse clinics led by members of the Boston Guard WLL, and rugby sessions conducted by the Boston Banshees WER, giving participants a taste of multiple sports.
SCORE Boston Director Dallas Jackson emphasized that the program offers many families their first encounter with hockey, aligning with the organization’s focus on education, perseverance, teamwork and tolerance.
The effort coincides with the debut of the Professional Women’s Hockey League, a 12‑team circuit that includes the Boston Fleet, celebrated for breaking attendance records and holding the world’s highest tally of women’s hockey games.
The PWHL’s inaugural season began in January 2024, showcasing the world’s top female talent and reinforcing Boston’s growing presence in professional women’s hockey.
