Boston University’s women’s soccer program will begin its 32nd varsity season on Thursday, August 13, when the Terriers host Northeastern at Nickerson Field. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ at 6 p.m., giving fans an early glimpse of what promises to be a competitive campaign.
A rivalry renewed
The series between the Terriers and the Huskies stretches back 26 meetings, with BU holding a 14‑8‑3 advantage. Weather has occasionally interrupted the rivalry, including a recent cancellation, and the two programs have split their last two encounters, each ending in a draw.
Among the returning standouts is senior defender Helene Tyburczy, who earned Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2024, and forward Giulianna Gianino, the tournament’s Most Valuable Player after the previous championship run. Both players are expected to anchor the lineup as the team integrates six new additions.
The newcomers include All‑Patriot League honorees Olivia Avellar and Bridget Carr, who join a roster that retained 20 letterwinners from the 2025 season. Northeastern, meanwhile, will count on recent All‑CAA selections Eliza Teplow and Ava Gialanella to bolster its attack.
Following the home opener, the Terriers embark on a three‑game road swing that opens with a Sunday afternoon match at UAlbany, scheduled for a 2 p.m. kickoff. The early‑season schedule is designed to test the team’s depth and cohesion as the program looks to extend its recent run of success.
