Bowling Green State University announced this week that head men’s basketball coach Todd Simon has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the helm through March 31, 2030. The move comes as the Falcons continue to build on a period of rapid improvement that has reshaped the program’s trajectory.
A Record of Rapid Growth
Simon’s tenure has already produced the most wins by a BGSU coach in their first three seasons, finishing with a 52‑46 record. The team reached the 20‑win milestone in a single season, one of the quickest turnarounds in school history, and posted a 10‑win stretch before the holiday break for the first time since the 1947‑48 campaign.
Academic Excellence and APR Success
Beyond the scoreboard, Simon has prioritized scholarly achievement, guiding the Falcons to a 3.46 semester GPA — the highest in program history — and perfect 1000 APR scores each season. This academic consistency marks the first back‑to‑back 1000 APR achievements in BGSU basketball.
Recruiting Impact
The coach’s recruiting acumen has brought in standout talent such as First‑Team All‑MAC guards Marcus Hill and Javontae Campbell, the latter earning MAC Defensive Player of the Year. Their contributions have helped the team secure seven All‑MAC honors and a Power Conference victory over Kansas State, the program’s first win against a Power Five opponent since 2005.
Historic Wins and Milestones
Under Simon’s guidance, the Falcons have advanced to the MAC Tournament each season, reaching the quarterfinals three years in a row. The squad also recorded a 27‑steal performance against Bethany College and limited VMI to just 20 percent shooting, underscoring defensive improvements that have defined the era.
