The 2026 BOXTOROW HBCU Preseason All-America team has been unveiled, spotlighting the top talent from across the historically Black college football landscape. In a 30-player field, two programs dominate the honors, each contributing five selections, the most of any school represented.
Coaching Legacies and Championship Expectations
Both squads are anchored by seasoned coaches who have already guided their teams to recent title runs. Coach Tremaine Jackson leads Prairie View A&M, the defending SWAC champions, while Coach Chennis Berry directs South Carolina State, the reigning HBCU national champions. Their programs are viewed as the primary forces to watch as the 2026 season unfolds.
Among the highlighted players, returning All-Americans such as Andrew Body of Alabama State and defensive standouts Elijah Baker and Ta’Shaun Sims add depth, while newcomers Tyler Smith and Jordan Franklin from South Carolina State bring fresh dynamism. The mix of offensive firepower and defensive grit reflects the competitive balance the preseason team aims to showcase.
The geographic spread of the selections underscores the national reach of HBCU football, with standout honorees hailing from states including Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Texas and Alabama. Conference affiliations also play a role, as the SWAC contributed a majority of the roster, while the MEAC added several key names.
Since its inception in 2007, the BOXTOROW preseason All-America team has become a barometer for talent that will shape the upcoming Celebration Bowl and the broader HBCU narrative. This year's edition not only celebrates individual excellence but also sets the stage for intensified rivalries, especially between South Carolina State and Prairie View A&M, whose clash could reverberate throughout the 2026 polls.
