The Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers concluded the 2026 baseball season with a 27‑23 record, a performance that underscores the program’s steady rise over the past decade. Under head coach Bobby Gilliam, the team added another chapter to its resurgence by capturing its first conference championship in 25 years, a milestone that has energized players, staff, and the broader Shreveport‑Bossier community.
A Decade of Growth
Over the last nine seasons Gilliam has guided the Cavaliers to 252 victories, including six winning campaigns and five playoff appearances. The program’s consistency is reflected in the fact that more than 60 BPCC alumni have advanced to Division I schools since Gilliam took the helm, illustrating a sustained development pathway that extends beyond a single season.
Central to that progress has been the work of pitching coach Andrew Mercer, whose recruiting acumen and player‑development focus produced two Region 14 Pitchers of the Year: Zach Saint Pierre in 2022 and Garett Blanchard in 2025. Their successes have helped elevate the program’s reputation on the national junior‑college stage.
Offensive Revitalization
The 2026 squad hit .292 as a team and ranked second in Region 14 North with 63 home runs, marking a notable offensive improvement. Hitting coach Bryant Bowen, a 2015 Shreveport Times Player of the Year and former standout from the local area, joined the staff to address the team’s previous issues with walks and strikeouts, adding depth and discipline to the lineup.
The impact of Bowen’s approach was evident as the Cavaliers posted a higher batting average and more consistent run production. The offensive surge complemented the strong pitching staff, creating a balanced club that could compete against top regional opponents.
Eight players from the 2026 roster transferred to Division I programs this summer, underscoring the program’s growing pipeline. Notable moves include pitchers Trent Lape heading to UL Lafayette, Ben McKinnon joining Louisiana Tech, and catcher Gianluca Montanaro committing to Belmont University. Additional transfers such as Bryson Pierce, Jacob Polleto, Chase Randall, Jackson Reifel, James Reina, Brandon Levy, Cole Patrick, and Mason Sanders are set to continue the Cavaliers’ presence in the Southland, Ohio Valley, and NAIA conferences.
The momentum shows no sign of slowing. With a proven track record of player development, a recent conference title, and a steady flow of talent moving to four‑year institutions, BPCC’s baseball program is positioned to remain a competitive force in the junior‑college landscape for years to come.
