A Canadian's Leap onto the International Nascar Stage
Brad Ranson, a 27‑year‑old driver from Rockwood, made his debut in the NASCAR Euro Series in Spain over the April 18‑19 weekend, finishing third in his class and drawing immediate attention from the series’ organizers in front of a crowd of roughly 40,000 spectators.
The invitation to race came after a successful test session in February, when Ranson was offered a full‑season seat with the NASCAR Europe team. He has been preparing for the challenge with a home simulator, a routine that lets him keep his reflexes sharp while he spends the Canadian winter competing in the United States.
Ranson’s next assignment is the NASCAR Canada Series, where his first race will take place on May 17 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in Bowmanville. He will drive the #28 Chevrolet Camaro, a car backed by sponsors including Wallace Chevrolet in Milton, Best Deal Print Solutions, GMH UV and Komcan/Komori.
Despite the caliber of his rivals, Ranson says he feels excitement rather than nerves. “I’m here to learn and to win,” he said, adding that his goal is to chase a championship in either the Europe or Canada series. The events are also cultural spectacles, featuring monster trucks and country music that draw crowds of up to 40,000 spectators.
Fans can watch his races live on TSN, and the broadcast will showcase not only the on‑track action but also the unique blend of American‑style festivities that accompany NASCAR events in Europe.
