The Brainerd Legion baseball squad entered a weekend tournament in Fargo with high hopes, but the competition proved relentless, resulting in four consecutive defeats from June 26 through June 28.
A narrow defeat against Minot
On the opening night the team fell 4‑3 to Minot after a solid outing from starter Kashius Caughey, who threw five innings and recorded six strikeouts, yet the offense could only muster three runs.
The following day brought a 7‑6 loss to Bloomington, where Rylan Amundson and Tydan Guida each drove in two runs, but the team’s defense could not hold the lead, and Gus Lund took the loss on the mound after a 2‑for‑4 performance at the plate.
A 9‑0 shutout at the hands of Fargo added another chapter to the streak, with Korben Bade, Kashius Caughey, Rylan Amundson and Braxton Tautges each collecting hits, though the offense was unable to break through the opposing pitcher’s grip.
The final game of the stretch, an 11‑1 drubbing by Moorhead on June 28, saw Ethan Berg, Braxton Tautges and Kashius Caughey each adding hits, but the team’s momentum remained elusive.
What’s next for the Legion
Despite the winless stretch, the performances of Caughey, Tautges, Guida, Lund, Amundson, Bade and Berg highlight a core of talent that could fuel future success, and the team will look to regroup as the season progresses.
