The Brainerd VFW baseball team entered a weekend showdown against Sartell and emerged winless, dropping three consecutive games that tested both pitching depth and offensive firepower.
A three‑game sweep
On June 24, Eli Kossan stepped up for Brainerd, delivering two runs and striking out nine batters in seven innings, but the 4‑3 final margin slipped away. Connor Haff, Brayden Velsaco and Mack Milbradt contributed hits, keeping the VFW in contention.
Four days later, the VFW faced another 5‑2 defeat. Kossan doubled and drove in a run, while Owen Miller walked twice and scored, and Crewe Dahlheimer tossed four innings with a single strikeout. Kyper DeRoiser added a hit and a run to the effort.
The series concluded on June 29 with a 5‑0 loss. Brody Lord, Sam Loschko and Cody Van Horn each recorded hits, but the VFW could not find a way past Sartell’s pitching staff.
Despite the sweep, the team showed flashes of promise, especially through Kossan’s all‑around performance and the steady hitting of Lord, Loschko and Van Horn. The VFW will look to regroup as the season progresses.
