Season Summary
The Brainerd VFW baseball team concluded its regular season with a 5-5 record, a .500 finish that reflected both promising moments and tough defeats.
Game at Little Falls
On July 6 the squad traveled to Little Falls and fell 14-9, a high-scoring affair that saw Joey Castle hit a double, score twice and drive in two runs, while Jack Norman added two hits and two runs. Eli Kossan, Crewe Dahlheimer and Hakon Haapajoki all cracked doubles, and Brayden Velasco tossed 4.2 innings of relief, striking out five while walking six.
Second Meeting with Little Falls
The rematch ended in a 10-0 loss, but Jaxx Dahlheimer and Ethan Berg managed to get on base with hits. Despite the shutout, the team’s pitching staff showed resilience, with Eli Kossan delivering seven innings and striking out four to earn the decision.
Win Over Foley
A day later the VFW bounced back with a 7-0 victory against Foley on July 8. Owen Miller went 3-for-3 and scored a run, while Crewe Dahlheimer and Connor Hoff each contributed two hits. Both Dahlheimer and Haapajoki added doubles, and the offense was complemented by solid pitching that kept Foley scoreless.
Looking Forward
With the regular season in the books, the team will now shift focus to offseason preparations, aiming to build on the performances of its emerging hitters and the steady arm of Velasco as they gear up for future competition.
