The Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) has handed down sanctions to two of the state’s prominent football programs after they were caught using full protective gear before the league’s prescribed date.

Both Brandon High School and Northside High School practiced in full pads on August 13, two days ahead of the August 15 deadline that the association set for the introduction of full‑length equipment. The MHSAA’s updated practice schedule requires five days of shorts and shoulder‑pad work before players may don the heavier gear.
The Bulldogs of Brandon, under first‑year head coach Eugene Clinton, are slated to open the 2026 season on August 28 at Tupelo, while the Northside squad will begin its campaign the same day on the road against Jefferson County. Both teams now carry the weight of a one‑year probation that could influence their early‑season preparations.
This is not the first time Brandon has run afoul of the association’s equipment rules; the school endured a similar probationary period last season, making the latest sanction the second consecutive disciplinary action for the Bulldogs.
