Brandon Leavell, a three‑star safety from Goodpasture Christian School in Madison, Tennessee, announced his commitment to the University of Tennessee’s 2027 football class, edging out rival programs such as North Carolina State, Florida State, Florida and Clemson.
Rankings and Recruiting Context
The 6‑foot‑165‑pound prospect holds the No. 47 spot among athletes in the national class and is ranked No. 28 among Tennessee players by 247Sports, a ranking that underscores his rising profile.
Leavell’s recruitment trajectory began with an early scholarship offer from UConn on February 6, and he later received invitations from a host of schools including Colgate, Lehigh, Middle Tennessee State, Tulane, Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, Missouri, Purdue, Miami (Ohio), Coastal Carolina, UAB, Memphis, USF, Maryland, Auburn, Ole Miss and Indiana. Tennessee extended its own offer on February 24.
He has visited the Knoxville campus twice and is set to take an official visit on Thursday, a step that many recruits use to solidify their decision. The Vols’ 2027 class already boasts seven other pledges: linebacker JP Peace, offensive tackle Princeton Uwaifo, defensive lineman Kadin Fife, quarterback Derrick Baker, athlete Jaden Butler, wide receiver KeSean Bowman and defensive back Carter Jamison.
Coach Josh Heupel and the Tennessee coaching staff view Leavell’s pledge as a boost to the defensive backfield, adding a versatile athlete who can play both safety and nickel corner. The commitment also reflects the growing appeal of the Volunteers’ program among top in‑state talent.
