The Hamilton Hammers announced this week that they have inked 27-year-old defenceman Brandon Scanlin to a one-year contract in the American Hockey League.
A Fresh Face on the Blue Line
Scanlin arrives after five seasons within the New York Rangers organization, where he honed his game with the Hartford Wolf Pack and earned a reputation as a reliable stay-at-home defender.
The native of Hamilton, Ontario, first caught the attention of NHL scouts while playing three seasons at the University of Nebraska Omaha, compiling 62 points in 98 collegiate appearances and earning a spot on the NCHC All-Rookie Team in 2020.
Since turning professional, Scanlin has logged 255 AHL games, tallying 57 points, and broke into the NHL during the 2023-24 season, appearing in 49 games for Hartford and contributing 11 points.
His blend of size, poise and offensive upside makes him a valuable addition as the Hammers look to bolster their defensive core for the upcoming campaign.
Scanlin expressed excitement about returning to his Canadian roots and contributing to a team that values community engagement and competitive spirit.
The club’s general manager highlighted the move as part of a broader strategy to blend youthful talent with veteran savvy, aiming to push the team back into playoff contention.
