Former Florida Gators linebacker Brandon Spikes is no longer part of the University of Florida's football program, a decision announced as part of an internal restructuring of the staff. The move follows a short but meaningful chapter in which Spikes returned to Gainesville in 2023 to finish his degree and assist the team in a developmental capacity.
A brief but impactful chapter
During the 2023 season Spikes served as the assistant director of player development and worked closely with the GatorMade program while pursuing an MBA at the Warrington College of Business. His role involved mentoring current players, coordinating academic resources, and helping bridge the gap between the locker room and the classroom.
Spikes' impact extended beyond administrative duties. He was praised by former UF head coach Billy Napier for his leadership and the example he set for younger teammates, embodying the tenacity and discipline that defined his playing days.
On the field, Spikes leaves a storied legacy. He earned two-time All-American honors and three-time First-Team All-SEC recognition, appearing in 47 games with 39 starts. His collegiate statistics include 307 tackles and six interceptions, numbers that helped secure his selection by the New England Patriots in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft.
The former Gator went on to enjoy a six-year NFL career with the Patriots and Buffalo Bills, compiling 349 tackles and six forced fumbles. Though his professional tenure concluded without a championship, his contributions on defense and his reputation as a hard‑hitting, instinctive player remain a benchmark for Florida alumni.
