Braydon Johns Takes the Helm of Coshocton Football Program

Former All‑Ohio standout blends explosive play philosophy with academic focus

Braydon Johns, a 24‑year‑old former All‑Ohio running back, was named head coach of the Coshocton High School football program on July 6, succeeding Brock Bolden, who resigned to return to the Olentangy school district.

Johns’s playing résumé includes a third‑team All‑Ohio selection in Division V (2020) and four seasons on defense at Division II Findlay University, where he helped shape new offensive and defensive schemes during Bolden’s absence.

A Distinctive Coaching Philosophy

In his first public remarks, Johns said the team’s approach will look different on both sides of the ball, emphasizing explosive plays and giving playmakers like Mason Williams, Champ Haley, Hayden Young and Kash Murphy the freedom to operate in space rather than fitting them into a rigid system.

He also underscored that academics remain a cornerstone of the program, promising that student‑athletes will be challenged to excel in the classroom as well as on the field.

Looking Beyond a Rebuilding Narrative

While some observers have labeled the upcoming season a rebuilding year, Johns rejected that label, insisting the roster is ready to compete and that the focus is on maximizing each player’s potential.

The Coshocton Board of Education, which oversees the football program, cited Johns’s blend of on‑field innovation and off‑field accountability in announcing his appointment.
