Breakaway Ray: A Story of Resilience and Mentorship
Ray Davis grew up navigating the foster care system, a world marked by his mother’s struggle with addiction and his father’s incarceration. Those early hardships forged a resilience that later defined his path onto the football field.
Today, Davis is an All‑Pro running back and kick returner for the Buffalo Bills, known for his electrifying plays and ability to change the momentum of a game. His athletic achievements have earned him recognition across the league.
Off the field, Davis credits the Big Brothers Big Sisters program for providing the mentorship that helped steer him away from the pitfalls that once threatened his future. The organization’s influence is woven into the narrative of the upcoming film.
The screenplay, penned by W. Peter Iliff and directed by Gary Fleder, will be produced by Patrick Rizzotti with co‑production from Lanie Albin. The project enjoys the backing of both the Buffalo Bills and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, linking sports, storytelling, and social impact.
Production is scheduled to begin in February 2027 in San Francisco, where the crew will also benefit from the California Film Tax Credit and the city’s Scene in San Francisco incentive program. The film aims to capture the city’s vibrant backdrop while honoring Davis’s journey.
Beyond the screen, Davis hopes the movie will inspire others facing similar circumstances, using his platform to highlight the power of mentorship and perseverance. He envisions a future where stories like his encourage communities to invest in youth support programs.
