Brendan Connolly has been appointed head coach of the John Jay‑Cross River football program, a move that the school hopes will breathe new life into a team that has struggled in recent years. A native of Edgemont, Connolly grew up watching his father, Brian Connolly, steer the program during its most successful era, and he now returns to the sidelines with a clear vision: to develop talent, instill discipline, and restore the Wolves to competitiveness.
A New Chapter for the Wolves
Connolly brings a résumé that blends playing experience at Edgemont and Muhlenberg College with coaching stints at Edgemont, Riverdale and Carmel. His appointment coincides with the school’s decision to place the Wolves in the Ability Based League for a year, a strategic step designed to give an inexperienced roster room to grow while the program rebuilds. At the same time, John Jay‑Cross River is set to move back to Class A after a season spent in Class B, a shift that reflects the administration’s confidence in a longer‑term resurgence.
The offensive identity will remain largely unchanged, with the team continuing to run a spread system that has proven effective in the past. Returning seniors Nick Rinaldi and junior James Tesi give the Wolves proven playmakers at running back and wide receiver, respectively, providing a solid foundation for Connolly’s player‑development focus.
Connolly will not be working alone. He will be joined by a cadre of experienced assistants, including Mars Langella, Tom Woodburn, Andrew Fiore, James Pape and Matt Ferrer, each of whom adds depth to the coaching staff.
